Medical Care & Diagnostics
Careful investigation, tailored treatment plans
Thorough 30-Minute Consultations
When your pet is unwell, taking the time to listen carefully is one of the most important steps in finding answers. Our standard consultations are 30 minutes, giving us time to hear your concerns, ask questions and understand what changes you’ve noticed before performing a thorough physical examination.
Having more time also means we can look at the whole picture, rather than simply treating symptoms. Our experienced vets are often able to pick up subtle signs or early changes that might otherwise be missed. Longer appointment times also help us stay on schedule, so you are less likely to be kept waiting and your visit never feels rushed.

X-Rays and Ultrasound Imaging
Diagnostic imaging allows us to investigate problems that cannot be detected through examination alone. At Dural Veterinary Hospital we use digital X-rays and ultrasound imaging to help understand what may be happening inside your pet’s body when they are unwell.
These tools help diagnose a wide range of conditions including injuries and fractures, bladder stones, heart and lung disease, internal masses and some gastrointestinal conditions. Imaging often provides valuable information quickly and helps guide the most appropriate treatment plan for your pet.
In-House Diagnostics Including Blood Testing
When pets are unwell, timely answers can make an important difference. Our in-house laboratory equipment allows us to perform many diagnostic tests on-site, including blood testing and urinalysis.
Results are often available quickly, allowing us to assess organ function, detect infection and investigate illness without unnecessary delays. This helps us make informed decisions about the next steps in your pet’s care.

Itchy Skin, Ear Infections & Allergy Investigations
Skin and ear problems are among the most common conditions we see in dogs and cats. Almost all cases have an underlying cause, most commonly allergies, which can lead to persistent itching, redness and recurrent ear infections.
Secondary bacterial or yeast infections are also very common and can make itching much worse. We use in-house cytology to examine samples from the skin or ears under the microscope, allowing us to identify infection and treat it appropriately. Follow-up visits help ensure infections are fully cleared and allow us to develop a long-term plan to reduce flare-ups and keep your pet comfortable.
Gastrointestinal Disease (Vomiting & Diarrhoea)
Vomiting and diarrhoea are common symptoms in dogs and cats. While some cases are mild and resolve quickly, others can be serious or even life-threatening, so careful assessment is important.
Our first step is determining whether the problem appears to be sudden or ongoing, and how unwell your pet is. Some pets can be supported safely at home, while others may require hospital care with fluids and monitoring. Wherever possible we start with simple, sensible treatments first, but if symptoms are severe, persist or recur we can investigate further and manage the condition appropriately.

Chronic Disease Management
Some medical conditions require ongoing care rather than short-term treatment. Chronic diseases such as Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism), epilepsy, thyroid disorders, kidney disease and arthritis are commonly diagnosed in pets.
With careful monitoring and the right treatment plan, pets with chronic illness can continue to live normal, happy and active lives. Our role is to work with you over the long term — monitoring progress, adjusting treatment when needed and ensuring your pet continues to receive the best possible care as their needs change over time.
